FFP replaces clotting factors in patients with liver disease, those on warfarin who need rapid reversal, massive transfusion protocols for trauma, and DIC. It's also crucial for treating burns and certain inherited clotting disorders.
Plasma can be donated through whole-blood donation (separated at the blood bank) or directly via plasmapheresis at an equipped centre. Plasmapheresis donors can give every 14 days.
Convalescent plasma programmes from COVID-19 have largely been phased out as treatments evolved. Some centres in Panchkula may still collect for research or specific indications — check with the blood bank directly.
Government blood banks charge a regulated processing fee of approximately ₹400 per FFP unit. Private centres charge more. The fee is often waived or reduced for thalassaemia, BPL, and other exempt categories.
