Nishaant Chaturvedi's Story
I got to know from a friend that the NSS cell in our college will be organizing a blood donation camp soon. Having turned 18 fairly recently, I was spirited to partake in such a novel task. Furthermore, I had read somewhere that it’s actually really healthy to donate blood, so for me it was a non zero sum game (Win-Win).
My experience was genuinely pleasant. The doctors and nurses present at the camp were extremely patient and passionate. They explained the procedure clearly to every donor, addressing doubts and calming understandable nervousness.
They first took a few drops of my blood to check my haemoglobin levels and blood pressure. Once everything was found to be normal, I was guided to the ambulance where the blood was being collected. There, a unit of blood was drawn and placed on a small tumbling machine. Afterwards, I was given refreshments and asked to sit for a few minutes to ensure I felt fine post-donation.
That was it, as simple as that, what looked like a mammoth task to me turned out to be quite simple and elegant. A very common misconception which I have observed is that a lot of people think that donating blood is an arduous task, on the contrary, when done properly under supervision, it can be as simple as a walk in the park.
So yeah, thanks for reading about my experience, I hope it helps/aids the cause in some way shape or form. Thanks!
